Self-advocacy lesson plans
Dyslexia Scotland believes that learning spaces should be neuroinclusive. That means having environments where systems adapt to the people, rather than people to the systems.
But until that happens, people with dyslexia need to be able to ask for – and receive – reasonable adjustments that help them work and learn in our current systems.
These lesson plans by The Wee Coaching Company support teachers to help children and young people in school settings from P1 to S2 learn about asking for – and supporting – individual needs.
These resources were developed for the Dyslexia Awareness Week 2026 campaign Right Tools for the Job.
The lesson plans and resources can be used during or after the week.
Each lesson lasts approximately 60 minutes. The lessons are designed to be used in series, but Lesson 1 for each age group can be used as a standalone. A presentation for assemblies is available to download from the Informal Settings sections below.
