Overview of role
The Education programme co-ordinator role is a new post, funded by the Scottish Government. The post-holder will be responsible for the Dyslexia and inclusive practice Professional Recognition programme for educators and will be part of a small staff team.
The purpose of the job is to lead the strategic expansion of the Dyslexia and inclusive practice Professional Recognition (PR) programme. This role is responsible for increasing the programme’s reach while maintaining its high quality, continuing to build a vibrant community of practice and disseminating learning from practitioner enquiries to drive systemic change across Scotland.
Dyslexia and inclusive practice programme for educators
The programme was developed collaboratively by Dyslexia Scotland and Education Scotland following an extended pilot that ended in 2019. The programme, supported by a grant from the Scottish Government, was accredited by GTCS in 2021 and is now in its fifth year. In March 2026, the Scottish Government committed to fund the expansion of the programme, from 50 to 100 places per year. Cohort 6 of the programme will start in September 2026.
Main duties and responsibilities
The post-holder will work closely with Education Scotland’s Inclusion, Wellbeing and Equalities Team, the Dyslexia and inclusive practice Panel and former alumni of the programme, in liaison with the Dyslexia Scotland team (especially Chief Executive and Senior Administrator).

- Co-ordinate the programme including arranging speakers, alumni input and evaluation of events (Masterclasses, Reflective Study Day, Drop-in sessions, Award Ceremony), as well as recruiting practitioners on the programme each year.
- Co-chair the Panel, including overseeing potential restructuring to ensure efficient review of practitioner enquiry submissions for the expanded programme.
- Co-ordinate the Panel and review submissions as part of the panel.
- Conduct a robust audit of the existing programme’s successes to date, identifying core strengths to preserve during expansion.
- Increase participant intake from 50 to 100 places per year without compromising the high-quality standards of professional recognition.
- Establish tracking systems to monitor the impact of expanded delivery on both practitioner development and learner outcomes.
2. Community of practice
- Build and sustain a community of practice where educators can share challenges, good practice, and problem-solving strategies related to dyslexia.
- Support the development and delivery of ongoing professional learning opportunities to share learning from the programme to practitioners, schools and education authorities.
- Contribute to and promote effective collaboration across Dyslexia Scotland, Education Scotland and the Scottish Government to encourage and achieve innovative and creative thinking of educational provision or practice. This would include the Addressing Dyslexia Toolkit as a member of the working group and the online Dyslexia and inclusive practice modules.
- Ensure all work is mindful of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Education Scotland are committed to improving the levels of children and young people’s participation in their learning.
3. Sharing of learning, knowledge and evidence
- Support practitioners in developing research questions for their practitioner enquiries, on the GLOW team space for the programme and in the Drop-in sessions.
- Collate findings from individual practitioner enquiries to identify emerging trends, gaps, and best practices in dyslexia and inclusive practice.
- Lead the sharing of findings through masterclasses, practitioner enquiry posters, internal publications, and professional learning sessions.
