The open letter

Thank you to everyone who signed our letter to enable thousands of people with dyslexia to have a dyslexia-friendly future in Scotland. We have sent this letter to Party Leaders in Scotland ahead of the upcoming elections.

The open letter

We, the 1124 undersigned, are writing as Dyslexia Scotland President, Vice Presidents, Ambassadors, Board of Directors, staff team, volunteers and supporters. We invite your party to lead Scotland to become a world leader in inclusive education, skills and employment.

Scotland has a once-in-a-generation opportunity. Dyslexia affects one in ten Scots, and by harnessing artificial intelligence and emerging technologies now, we can deliver faster identification, lower-cost support, and better outcomes for learners, teachers and employers – while closing attainment and poverty gaps and strengthening Scotland’s economy.

We are asking your party to commit to three deliverable, evidence-based solutions:

  • A national, digital School Leavers Passport – giving every young person portable, lifelong documentation of their strengths and support needs
  • A funded national pathway for adult dyslexia assessment – progressing toward free access and unlocking potential across the workforce
  • Mandatory dyslexia and neurodivergence training in all teacher education – supported by technology and assistive tools to embed inclusive practice from day one

These proposals are practical and deliverable within a single parliamentary term. They will generate long-term social and economic benefits while ensuring no learner or adult is left behind.

We are asking for your clear, public commitment:

  1. Include these three priorities in your 2026 manifesto
  2. Meet with Dyslexia Scotland at the earliest opportunity to discuss implementation within the first year of the next parliamentary term
  3. Champion these solutions publicly as part of your party’s vision for an inclusive, innovative Scotland

As supporters working daily with dyslexic individuals, families, educators and employers, we see what’s possible when government, policymakers and the third sector act with urgency and ambition. Scotland has the expertise, the technology and the opportunity – what we need now is political leadership and commitment.

Will your party commit to making Scotland a world leader in supporting dyslexic learners and adults? We look forward to your response and to working together to deliver real, lasting change.

Thank you for your consideration.

Yours sincerely,
