Dyslexia Scotland’s Manifesto

Context to our Manifesto
As Scotland approaches the 2026 Scottish Parliament elections, this is a critical moment for people with dyslexia.
Dyslexia affects around one in ten people, yet identification and support remain inconsistent across education, skills and employment. At the same time, rapid advances in technology and artificial intelligence present a major opportunity to transform how dyslexia is identified, supported and accommodated, widening access while reducing cost for learners, teachers and employers.
Dyslexia Scotland believes Scotland can lead the world in inclusive, technology-enabled dyslexia policy. We are keen to work in partnership with policymakers to develop ambitious, evidence-based solutions that deliver real and measurable outcomes.
We are calling on all parties to commit to three urgent priorities in their 2026 manifestos:
- A national, digital School Leavers Passport to ensure young people leave school with evidence of need that is recognised in further education, training and employment
- A funded national pathway for adult dyslexia assessment, progressing towards free access and supported by technology-enabled assessment tools
- Mandatory dyslexia and neurodivergence training in all teacher education, supported by assistive technology and AI-enabled classroom tools.
