Call for Young Changemakers

Dyslexia Scotland has launched an inspiring new initiative inviting young people to become official Young Dyslexia Scotland Changemakers. The campaign encourages young people to raise awareness of dyslexia in their schools and communities by putting simple ideas for inclusion into action.

Young people can draw on their own creativity or make use of a range of free resources, including Busting Dyslexia Myths posters and lesson plans, information leaflets, and the Dyslexia Unwrapped website.

To make their changemaking official, participants can visit the Be a Changemaker page on Dyslexia Scotland’s website. The charity encourages young people to discuss ideas with teachers, youth workers and families first, to make sure plans are practical and supported.

They can then log their awareness-raising activities through the charity’s dedicated Changemaker channel, which acts as a record of small steps on Scotland’s journey to become a dyslexia-friendly country.

Young people who submit their activity can download a digital Young Changemaker badge.

Volunteers Manager Sue Bowen said: “We’re constantly impressed by the initiative shown by young people across Scotland to make their classrooms, communities and youth clubs more dyslexia friendly. We’re regularly inundated by young people wanting to have a formal Ambassadorial role for our charity, so we created the Young Changemaker initiative to empower young people to use the resources and take action at grassroots levels all across Scotland.”

A social media campaign will promote Young Changemakers features Dyslexia Scotland Young Ambassadors as the faces and voices of the initiative.
