Strategies for 13-17 years
It can sometimes be hard to stay positive when you’re having a challenging day because of your dyslexia.
If you ever start to feel anxious or are experiencing a lack of confidence, here are some tips you can use to help with your daily life.
Tips for 13 – 17 year olds
1. Develop a growth mindset to help you become the best you can be
In a growth mindset, people believe that their basic abilities can be improved through dedication and hard work. This mindset creates the desire to keep learning and the persistence that is necessary for success in any area. Click here to watch a video about how to develop a growth mindset.
2. Keep it fun
Make time for enjoyable stuff to help you relax at the end of a hard day. Whether it’s playing a video game, listening to music, playing sports or baking, find something that helps you to switch off and relax.
3. Use video, film and podcasts to help you learn
Videos are a great way to take in new information about a topic, especially when you don’t want to read. Use YouTube and other video / audio platforms to learn new information. There are plenty to see in our Create & Share section – check them out!
4. Make persistency your middle name!
If you don’t understand something the first time, ask for help or try it over and over until you’ve got it.
5. Find out what your VARK learning style is
We all learn in different ways, but if you know what yours is, everything else becomes a bit easier. This may vary for different subjects. Ask a friend or teacher to help you take the VARK questionnaire here.
6. Finally, stay positive
Remember that if you work hard and ask for help you can achieve the things you want.
