The crowdfunder for a Dyslexia-Friendly Scotland tartan has exceeded its £5,000 target

A crowdfunding campaign by Dyslexia Scotland has raised £5,370 to have a symbolic new tartan woven.

The Dyslexia-Friendly Scotland tartan aims to create world-wide inclusion of the learning difference that affects one in ten people.

The appeal invited to donors to contribute towards the cost of weaving the bespoke cloth that will made into clothing and accessories expected to generate sustainable income.

Dyslexia Scotland’s Lead for Creative and Digital Katie Carmichael said: “We are thrilled to see this fundraiser exceed its target. The generosity of contributors really bolsters our vision for a dyslexia-friendly Scotland. Soon, people all over the world will be able to wear our tartan and show that they are part of Clan Dyslexia, making the learning difference more visible and understood in all parts of society. We’re so grateful to everyone who supported this campaign.”

Among the generous donors was the charity’s President, Sir Jackie Stewart, known in Formula 1 for his recognisable tartan helmet.

Dyslexia Scotland expects to press ‘go’ on the tartan weave at Lochcarron of Scotland before the end of the year, with goods available to buy from 2027.
