Awesome assemblies

Kingsland Dyslexia Club in the Scottish Borders builds confidence, raises awareness, and celebrates the unique strengths of each of their dyslexic
learners

At Kingsland primary school, our Dyslexia Club has been running successfully for a number of years, led by our Support for Learning Teacher, Mrs Franklin-Ray. The club provides a welcoming and supportive space where pupils meet throughout the year to discuss all things dyslexia, share strategies, and support newly identified learners in understanding how to thrive in school. We place a strong emphasis on celebrating strengths.

Each year, we mark Dyslexia Awareness Week Scotland by hosting a whole-school assembly on dyslexia which has received fantastic feedback and is often described as the highlight of the school assembly calendar. This assembly helps raise awareness and deepen understanding of dyslexia
across the school community.

We also take part in our wider Neurodiversity Celebration Week in March, continuing to promote inclusion and celebrate differences.

Our assemblies have featured inspiring guest speakers, including mountain biker Katy Winton and former rugby star Kenny Logan,
who have shared their personal experiences of dyslexia. The club has also benefited from visits by specialist teachers from across the Scottish
Borders, helping pupils develop skills such as using iPad accessibility tools to support their learning.

We are particularly proud of our pupil achievements. One of our members, Anna, was interviewed for the Dyslexia Club book by Margaret
Rooke and had the opportunity to support Margaret at DyslexiFest last
year.

We also have a dedicated area within our school library featuring dyslexia-friendly books. While this space supports our club members,
all pupils are encouraged to borrow and enjoy these resources. In addition, we work closely with a local Peebles dyslexia charity, which has supported
us by providing valuable resources to enhance learning across the school.
