Dyslexic Adult Network Meeting: Table-itis and other personal strategies
Geotechnical engineer, Mark was considered average at school but now realises with his dyslexic traits, he is officially anything but average in the way he thinks and operates at work.
‘One of my dyslexia strategies at work is to utilise tables to summarise lots of information to assist with the design of foundations – just one of a few of my dyslexia-related attributes. Others include being good at problem solving, reasoning skills, spatial visualisation and awareness, and having the empathy to help others.’
Until 9 years ago Mark was convinced he was not dyslexic but his wife encouraged him to get assessed. Only in the last 2 years has Mark made the bold step to no longer hide his dyslexia in the workplace. He has now started exploring how to raise awareness of dyslexia in the construction sector and initiate open discussion about dyslexia and other neurodivergent attributes with the notion of ‘different not less’.
Mark will talk about some of his dyslexic journey. Come along to the meeting to find out more.
