Subject: Urgent action needed for our constituency

I am writing to you as a constituent to ask you to support the critical policy asks outlined in Dyslexia Scotland’s manifesto which have local and national implications (https://dyslexiascotland.org.uk/dyslexia-scotlands-manifesto/).

Dyslexia Scotland’s Manifesto highlights the link between unsupported dyslexia and literacy difficulties, which can contribute to lower attainment, disengagement at school, early school dropout, reduced employability and the disproportionate representation of people with dyslexia in the prison population.

I believe that the Scottish Government should implement three key asks that would deliver long-term social and economic benefits – improving education and employment outcomes while helping to close Scotland’s poverty and attainment gaps:

  • A national, digital School Leavers Passport – giving every young person portable, lifelong documentation of their strengths and support needs.
  • A funded national pathway for adult dyslexia assessment – progressing toward free access and unlocking potential across the workforce.
  • Mandatory dyslexia and neurodivergence training in all teacher education – supported by technology and assistive tools to embed inclusive practice from day one.

These proposals are practical and deliverable within a single parliamentary term. They will generate long-term social and economic benefits while ensuring no dyslexic child, young person or adult is left behind.

I would be grateful if you could let me know your position on this matter and what steps you will take to address it. You can also contact Dyslexia Scotland directly to discuss the issues raised in their Manifesto and how supporting the asks could positively impact our local area.

Thank you for your time and for representing our constituency.

Yours sincerely,
