Sharing support tips
by Liz Rodger, Dyslexia Scotland volunteer
At the April meeting of the Glasgow Adult Network, member Alison discussed how she coped with a constantly changing workload. The majority of the
coping mechanisms used were simple, such as saving notes on her mobile phone, using sticky notes for reminders and using mind maps as memory
aids to help workload planning.
Another of Alison’s coping mechanisms is taking time to get to know her staff personally. She listens to their work issues, helping her understand their jobs
and allowing her to communicate in a way that nurtures them. This enables her to delegate tasks in a way that empowers her staff by using their
individual strengths.
If you would like to discuss adult dyslexia issues with other dyslexic adults who understand, come along to one of our meetings. Workplace support
and empathy from others with dyslexia is available at Dyslexia Scotland’s Adult Networks. Meetings cover a variety of dyslexia subjects. Visit Dyslexia
Scotland’s Events webpage to find out more. I hope to welcome you at a meeting in future.
