Young, dyslexic and thriving
We were delighted to welcome nearly 30 young people with dyslexia to our recent Youth Day in Stirling. The participants, aged 10 to 13, attended two fun workshops run by The Wee Coaching Company and PACE Theatre. The workshops were designed to help the young people think about stepping outside their comfort zone, building resilience and being creative.
Our Young Ambassadors did an excellent job welcoming everyone to the event and chatting to anyone who was feeling a bit nervous. We were so proud of everyone who took part in the day.
What the young people thought
“I now know I am not the only kid with dyslexia. The activities were really fun and I felt happy and comfortable. I made a friend.”
“It made me feel better about my dyslexia.”
“It was nice to meet lots of other people with dyslexia.”
“I enjoyed the drama element and making a new friend.”
What parents and carers thought
“I have not once heard [our daughter] talk about her dyslexia being a positive thing until yesterday. She told me in lots of detail what she did during the day and she was very happy to do so. She liked being in a space with other kids with similar challenges and I really think this has made a positive difference to her self-esteem.”
“She really enjoyed her day and was very excited to tell us all about it. This was her first event and we only have positive things to say!”
“Our daughter came out feeling very enthusiastic about it and asking to do it again next year. We’re really grateful to you for organising it”.
