Rhyming report
CEO Cathy Magee OBE delivered the annual report for 2024-2025 in rhyme. Here’s the poem in full.
Three years ago, we set our sights,
On a Dyslexia-friendly Scotland, on human rights,
A nation where everyone can learn and where we know
That support for dyslexic people will grow and grow.
From Sean Connery’s initiative, seeds were sown,
Around a 1000 Edinburgh learners, their confidence grown.
Teachers trained, with deeper understanding
Of inclusive practice, their expertise expanding.
46 teachers earned Professional Recognition,
For dyslexia-inclusive education ambition.
More than 1200 completed online training,
An educational community of practice that is truly sustaining.
We launched a survey report, hard-hitting and true,
Over 1,400 adults shared their view.
At the Scottish Parliament, we made our case,
For a Scotland where dyslexic people assert their place.
This research will inform our next Strategic Plan
To address struggles faced across the life span
For in those stories, courage shone through,
Much-needed evidence, backing up what we knew.
Partnerships blossomed, with paths that connect,
From schools to workplaces, with lasting effect.
HSBC funded modules for teachers to learn more
MF Mac sponsored our research to bring it to the fore.
Beano joined in, with a comic twist,
Sharing 20,000 resources – what a way to assist!
Youth Scotland helped us craft a guide,
For youth workers to support dyslexia far and wide.
With Sir Jackie Stewart, our President in command,
And our dedicated Ambassadors making a stand,
We’ve met with ministers, leaving no trace
Campaigned fiercely for dyslexia to have its place.
Branches, tutors, and every volunteer,
Have given hope and support over the year.
Our Board, staff and changemakers too,
None of this could happen without all of you.
A special word of thanks before I conclude
For to leave this tribute out would be quite rude
As Directors Karen, Andy and Mike leave their station –
We’ll miss your wisdom, wit, and dedication
To making Scotland a dyslexia-friendly nation.
