Topic: Using your dyslexic skills/strategies to your advantage

Join us to hear from one of our newest Ambassadors, David Hughes. David will talk about how he used his dyslexic skills and strategies to his advantage when he was a student and then as he progressed in his career. "If you can find a place where your strengths are progressed and your values are fulfilled, you can overcome anything". There will be an opportunity for Questions and Answers following David's talk.

David is the Head of Physical Preparation for Performance Sport at the University of Edinburgh. Formerly he was a strength and conditioning coach at Scottish Rugby. For 18 years he has developed high level athletes from Olympic and Paralympic medal winners to rugby internationals and British Lions.

David struggled at school and his dyslexia was identified when he was 6. From that point on, he had a lot of support to develop strategies that helped his weaknesses but also to develop the strengths he believes dyslexia has given him. During this time sport became a huge outlet for the stress and anxiety he experienced as a child. During his career, David has found that it is not the 'dream job' that is important - it is the environment, relationships and values that matter.
